Cornea Infection Management
Cornea Infection Management
A corneal infection (keratitis) occurs when the clear, dome-shaped surface of the eye (cornea) becomes infected due to bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. If not treated promptly, it can cause scarring, severe pain, and even permanent vision loss. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are critical to protect eyesight.
Causes of Corneal Infections
Bacterial: Often linked to contact lens use or eye injury
Viral: Commonly caused by herpes simplex virus
Fungal: From plant/soil injury or prolonged steroid use
Parasitic (Acanthamoeba): Associated with contaminated contact lenses or water exposure
